Annual Dinner Meeting and Volunteer Recognition

The 2008 Annual Dinner Meeting and Volunteer Recognition was held on June 26, 2008, at the First Church of the Nazarene on Madison Avenue in Chillicothe. Highlights of the evening included recognition of Board Members, Election of Board Members and Officers, Recognition of Committee Chairs and Recognition of Volunteers. Mary McCord also presented a look back at the events of 2008- a busy year in the life of the First Capital Chapter.

In the past year we lost three valuable members of our chapter: Ruby Flynn, Donald Dixon and Deane Hawkins. Ruby Flynn was a dedicated volunteer who chaired the Blood Services Program for nearly 30 years. She served on the Board of Directors for many years and truly believed in the mission of the Red Cross. Donald Dixon served on the Board of Directors, most recently as Treasurer. He was a member of the Disaster Response Team and was always ready to respond when he was called on. Deane Hawkins volunteered for the American Red Cross for many years. He worked in the office every Monday and Thursday morning. Deane also served on the Disaster Action Team and was assigned to over ten national disasters. He was ready to respond whenever he was needed. We are deeply saddened by the passing of these three individuals. We will never be able to replace them and we will never forget them.

We wish to thank our outgoing members of the Board of Directors. Our gratitude for their dedication to the mission of the American Red Cross is beyond measure.

The American Red Cross First Capital District Chapter has found it necessary to appeal to the public for donations. We have had a difficult year. We have met the disaster caused needs of 43 families since July 1, 2007 including, 12 families since March 1st alone. While most of these disasters were house fires, we also provided for families whose homes were damage and belongings were destroyed by floods and wind damage.

American Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from the American people. Please help us to make sure that we can continue to provide food, clothing and shelter to our neighbors who are in need by making a donation today. Send your donation to the American Red Cross, 115 W Main St., Chillicothe, OH 45601. Call the chapter at 740-772-2014 for more information.
